Rethinking science and technology enabled innovation: implications for the financial services industry

Dr Uday Phadke was the key-note speaker at an event held at ReedSmith in London on 14th March 2017. The breakfast briefing session kicked off with a brief presentation from Dr Uday Phadke based on his recently published book called ‘Camels, Tigers & Unicorns’. Uday provided an overview of the findings from a 5-year research programme he lead at Cambridge on how science and technology is commercialised and the implications of this for innovation in financial services. In particular, he highlighted the major challenges around Chasm II, where most firms fail in the translation challenge. Members of the panel discussed regulatory and funding challenges, and the challenges of managing transformational change, in particular drawing parallels between Chasm II and the execution challenges in large corporates.
